Glen Tomney was born in Liverpool but spent his teenage years and much of his adulthood in Derby UK. Fascinated by drawing from an early age, his first efforts were caricatures from the film “Paint your wagon”. Since then, his work has tended to follow largely fantasy themes influenced by popular culture, Surrealism, Psychedelia and the genre which has become widely known as Folk Horror. Creating paintings, drawings, collages, assemblage art and models, in which he strives to add as much detail as possible. He uses pen and ink for his black and white work, pencil first then ink added very much like the 2000ad comics he loved as a teenager. He has painted in oils and acrylic and occasionally uses watercolour pencils and ink. He also uses Collage and assembled materials such as crystals and bones and beads etc as mixed media assemblage art yet still retaining a sense of fantasy and sometimes playfulness. His main influences are Austin Osman Spare, Brian Froud, Bruce Lacey and Leonora Carrington., as well as film makers David Lynch, Terry Gilliam, Jan Svankmajer and Alejandro Jodorowsky.

Nature and an eclectic music taste is something he considers as fuel to make his work and is drawn from a melting pot of Folk, Post- rock, Kosmiche, Shoe-gaze, Electronica and ambient music.

Two of his favourite guitarists are Michael Rother and Kevin Shields. He has recently completed his first film “Down to Spinny” using stop motion animation as his medium. The film tells the story of a nihilistic force draining nature and shows what happens when Nature fights back. Glen together with Scott B, formed the dark ambient duo “ Black Pit Lock” in which Glen provides drones guitar and samples.

Glen also plays a variety of instruments in his own musical project “Nordri”.
